Picking a dining set

  • Seats. Allow about 24 inches of table edge per person; a 60-inch rectangular table seats six comfortably.
  • Room. Leave about 36 inches between the table edge and the wall so chairs pull out.
  • Shape. Round tables suit square rooms and conversation; rectangular tables seat more along a wall.
